But there are a lot of questions about elevators that people may not know the answers to. Here, we’ll answer some of the most commonly asked questions about elevators and their operation.

Most modern elevators use electric motors to drive a cable-and-pulley system, which allows them to move up and down. The elevator cab is attached to a cable that runs through a series of pulleys at the top and bottom of the shaft. As the motor turns the cable, it pulls or pushes the cab up or down accordingly.
